Dr. William Gummerson

Dr. William "Bill" Gummerson is a former South Carolina public school principal and superintendent, who has served on several state educational committees including among others, school finance, technology, and accountability. He was selected by two governors to be the Governor's representative on the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC). 

Since coming to Appalachian State University, he has taught courses in the principalship, developing and managing school resources, school law, critical issuses in education, and the principal internship.

His scholarly interests include educational policy, educational and constitutional law, religion and public schools, as well as the culture wars in the United States.

Dr. Gummerson received his Ph.D. in educational administration, Ed.S. in educational administration, and M.A. in history all from the University of South Carolina. He received his B.A. in history from the Citadel.

His hobbies include studying military history and practicing Yang Style Tai Chi.
